Ok, so 1st let me apologize for being MIA for the last 2 weeks. We were packing, traveling, spending time with family then traveling home. It's been a whirlwind let me tell you! I'll have to blog some of it with pics later this week! :)
Today is a "Money Monday" so I'm here to tell you about something you may have NEVER heard of: Bountiful Baskets!
These baskets are (direct quote from BB.org) "Roughly 50% fruit, 50% vegetables, and 100% healthy, fun and delicious!"
These baskets cost $15.00 (plus a $1.50 credit card handling fee thru the website) and will save you about $35 over buying those same items at a local grocery store!
NOTE: the 1st time you order there is a $3 new participant fee for the baskets the volunteers will use to sort the produce into when the truck arrives at the pick up location (these baskets stay with the co-op so you need to bring something else to bring your items home with you on pick-up day).
All of this produce is purchased in quantities from smaller producers so you're supporting small farms while you meet new (local) people and save money! It's a win-win-win! :)
You are asked to volunteer to sort the produce about once every 4 to 6 times you participate (if you are physically able). Volunteering essentially boils down to showing up early when the truck arrives & sorting the produce into the baskets for pickup. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
A dear friend shared this information with me and I JUST ordered my 1st basket today! I'm uber excited for Saturday morning to roll around to go pick it up & see what we get! From what she's been receiving in her basket every week for about the last month - it is a TON of food!
Ordering opens at NOON (local time) on Mondays (except for Utah & Montana, where ordering opens at 10am on Mondays) and they take orders til Tusdays at 10PM (Mountain time) - but sometimes a location gets "full" way before that! If there isn't a location in your immediate area, you can always start one up!
I would just copy / paste all the detailed info on how to start participating & finding locations, but that seems silly when it's just all on their website. Find out everything you need to get started by clicking here: http://bountifulbaskets.org/
