After Pregnancy: 10 Things I'm Going to Miss

We all know pregnant women like to complain - about EVERYTHING. First it's the morning sickness (if you've never had it, don't tell me or I just might hate you for life), then it's the weight gain without ACTUALLY looking pregnant (I call this the "I'm NOT FAT, I'm PREGNANT" phase b/c I have to repeat it multiple times & people just look at me like "yeah right lady"), then it's the constant trips to the bathroom, then it's the... well you get the idea.

There ARE upsides to being pregnant though that maybe we need to talk about (or the human race could be in jeopardy from us scaring off younger generations from reproducing)!

Here are my top 10 things I LIKE about being pregnant and that I will actually miss after baby boy makes his appearance (hopefully soon - HINT HINT!!!)

10. The baby bump! Well, now that it's actually a BUMP and I don't just look fat like before say 20 weeks or so. It's kind of a little tray. I can prop up my cell phone when playing an app or my Nook to read. I can rest my beverage or snack plate on it. It kind of comes in handy. I might actually have to get end tables for our living room now...

9. Doctor's appointments! Sounds crazy, right? Who LIKES going to the doctor? (points 2 thumbs at self) THIS GIRL! It's my "me" time. I get to listen to the heartbeat & maybe SEE the baby on an ultrasound. Oh and I get to go by MYSELF. I haven't done anything by myself (not even PEE) in 11 years (since the 1st was born). Of course if there are other children being obnoxious in the waiting room it's not as enjoyable, but I digress...

8. Nesting! This is by far the biggest "perk" of being pregnant according to my husband (ok perhaps #2). Especially now that we are getting to move overseas - the purging and cleaning and organizing of the ENTIRE house is coming in very handy. I'm CDO (that's OCD in alphabetical order - in case you didn't know) to begin with so just imagine a woman with OCD who is in serious - and I do mean SERIOUS - nesting mode. I think I have rearranged every room twice already - (glancing across the room) - hmmm that shelf would look better over THERE...

7. Increased sex drive! That's right ladies - I'm gonna talk about it! You have more blood flow "down there" and things definitely feel different in the bedroom while you're pregnant. Once the morning sickness is gone and you have the energy of the 2nd trimester (but not the giant belly of the 3rd trimester) it's GAME ON! My husband would PROBABLY say this is #1, but if we're being honest here (and I tend to be OVERLY so) we do pretty well in that department when I'm NOT pregnant! ;)

6. Feeling those baby kicks! Of course, I'm not talking about the ones that hit way up in the ribs and perhaps get a little foot STUCK there (OUCH!), but the cute little kicks that are your baby's way of saying "Hey mom, I'm in here & doing okay". It's just so reassuring. Of course, once they are out, your kids will still kick you, but somehow, it's not as cute anymore...

5. The beauty benefits! Yes, I'm serious! My hair grows faster, nails are stronger, skin gets an overall "healthy" glow to it. It's pretty awesome if you think about it. If you choose to breastfeed, some of those benefits will continue so at least I won't have to give those up JUST yet...

4. Eating almost anything! Of course if you're on a restricted diet (like me with having Gestational Diabetes right now) then it's not as much fun. But when else can you crave pickles & peanut butter (yes TOGETHER) and no one thinks you're crazy (ok with that one, people still think I'm nuts). But for more "normal" cravings, people will just get you the food - no questions asked!

3. Relaxing! Yep, I know I could just put my feet up for an hour a day anyway (HA! With 3 kids already, where would I find the time?), but when else will someone EXPECT me to rest at some point during the day before I hit retirement age?

2. You have a secret! The few short weeks (or days depending on how long you can hold out) that ONLY you and your significant other "know" you're pregnant. That's a REAL secret. NO one would be able to guess until you hit at least like 10 weeks along (that's assuming you have abs of steel before getting pregnant and if you did, you SUCK & I hate you!). If you keep the gender a secret til delivery (which we've NEVER been able to do) then you have a secret even longer. It's a special bond that brings you & your spouse closer together. Ahhhhh...

And the #1 thing I'm going to miss about being pregnant is...

...

1. BLAME! You read that correctly! I said blame! Never again will you have an INSTANT excuse for EVERYTHING! Don't want to go to that playdate? "Sorry, we can't make it, I've got morning sickness." Crying about something someone said or did (but want to avoid the confrontation)? "Sorry, it's just the hormones!" Don't want to lift that box? "Oh honey, it's just so heavy. I don't think I should lift it." Forget someone's birthday? Anniversary? NAME? "Oh I have baby brain really bad. I'm so sorry!" Now I'm actually going to have to interact with people, do stuff and remember things (like names)!!!

Disclaimer: No, I do NOT encourage playing "I'm in a delicate condition" and not doing everyday stuff - but we were cleaning out the shed and girls' room and had some boxes of things to donate that were pretty heavy - so I got hubby to lift them. If you know me, you know I'm pretty self-reliant / independent.

What will you (or do you) miss about being pregnant?
