Moving: The Reality of Military Life

I'm feeling a bit sad about our upcoming PCS move to Germany.

I haven't made a "ton" of friends here because we haven't even been here 2 years yet (would have been 2 years at the end of July), but I have made a few very close friends.

That's the hardest part of being a military spouse right? The constant uprooting & moving of your whole family - leaving behind your family "back home" as well as dear friends at every duty station along your spouse's career.

Today, I scheduled our household good (HHG) shipments. In exactly 1 month from today, our Unaccompanied Baggage (UB) will be picked up and they will start packing up our main HHG shipment to head to Germany.

I have 1 month to declutter & purge things we don't / won't need for our 3 years overseas. I need to divide up our belongings into our 3 (really 4) shipments - UB to go ahead, main shipment with most of our stuff, things going into long-term storage (like our deep freezer, washer/dryer & wine fridge) and the items we'll take with us on the flight.

In that month, I also want to spend some time with friends, although with 3 little ones to chase after all day while trying to get the PCS related stuff done, that is going to be nearly impossible. Sure, there will be promises to stay in touch, but honestly, I've never been good at that (thank God for Facebook or I don't think I'd ever talk to any of my friends who have moved away or we have moved away from).

I promise to do better at keeping in touch with everyone important in my life - you know who you are ladies (& gentlemen too).

Although we will be starting a new chapter in our lives, I will never forget to go re-read the previous ones & be thankful for all the great memories!

Later Taters!
